Tony Stark is one of the funniest superheroes of the entire MCU. And considering this universe is filled with intelligent heroes who always seem to have a funny quip ready, it speaks volumes about him. Tony's sense of humor stems not only from his remarkable intellect but also his love of teasing others, friend or foe. And considering his penchant for biting humor, it's hard to come with a witty retort when Tony insults someone in his typical fashion.

Despite all the challenges Tony Stark faces, he usually finds a way how to laugh and that's one of the reasons why so many people like Iron Man - because he gave them plenty of hilarious moments that made them smile.

10 Tony Tries To Lift Thor's Hammer

The second Avengers movie, Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015), might not have been the greatest MCU movie but it still had plenty of strong moments. One of the funniest ones saw the Avengers try and lift Thor's hammer during a party. Unlike Captain America, who was able to nudge the hammer a little (and wipe the smile off Thor's face), Tony wasn't able to move it at all.

That didn't stop him from trying multiple times, though. He even used the power of his suit and tried to lift the hammer with Rhodey but neither of these things worked. Seeing him work so hard made for a great comedic sequence.

9 Tony Recruits Spider-Man

Tony is often funniest when he has the chance to interact with other people who are much more serious. That's what happens when Tony goes to Queens to recruit young Peter Parker in Captain America: Civil War (2016). Tony initially flirts with Peter's aunt, and then goes on to confront the terrified Peter who's not happy about someone learning about his secret identity.

The back and forth conversation between them contains some funny quips and it also served as an inspiration source for many memes - for example, one, in which Tony shows Peter the footage of Tom Holland dressed as Rihanna and dancing, not saving the bus as Spider-Man.

8 Any Time He Shoots Down People

Tony Stark is many great things - billionaire, genius, superhero, (former) playboy - but one thing he isn't is someone who would mince his words. As a result, he can come across as arrogant sometimes but he also has the talent to funnily shoot down his enemies and other people too.

For example, when Tony faces Loki in his tower, he reminds the god of mischief that: "We have a Hulk." And let's not forget how Tony points out the poor agent who plays the game Galaga on his computer instead of working.

7 Tony Compliments Hulk

Tony and Bruce Banner have a unique dynamic in the MCU - so much so that some fans took to calling them the Science Bros. When they meet for the first time, Tony is quick to confess he finds Bruce's scientific work impressive. And then he goes on to pay a compliment to none other than Hulk when he says: "And I'm a huge fan of the way you lose control and turn into an enormous green rage monster."

What makes the moment even better is Bruce's hesitant "Thanks" which makes it clear he's not quite sure how he feels about the compliment.

6 Tony Gets The Phone From Steve

Even though things end on a rather sour note in Captain America: Civil War (2016), there's still a glimmer of hope in the film's finale. Tony receives a package from Steve containing a phone that Tony could use for contacting Steve if he needed him.

What's so funny about the scene is Stan Lee's cameo, which is one of his best MCU cameos overall. Stan Lee plays the man delivering the package and he says to Tony he has a package for "Tony Stank." Tony is exasperated while Rhodey is amused, and so is the audience.

5 Tony Meets, Insults, And Fights Thor

Tony Stark is a man of many talents, and one of them is rubbing people the wrong way. He and Thor end up respecting one another but the first time they meet, it doesn't go as smoothly - and Tony's sharp tongue doesn't help. Tony insults Thor's style of clothing and also mentions his mother.

Even someone as openly honest as Tony should know better than to insult someone's mom. Tony doesn't improve the situation in the slightest when he calls Thor "Shakespeare in the park." It's not the last time Tony and Thor banter but it's one of the best.

4 Tony Calls Out Steve's Bad Language

For a great part of the MCU films, Iron Man and Captain America were enemies or at least rivals. However, they also had some hilarious scenes together. One of them happened when Tony was quick to throw Steve's earlier words at him.

At one point, Steve reprimanded the Avengers for swearing by saying his now-iconic line: "Language!" Tony was quick to take notice of this and when he got the opportunity, he called Steve out by saying: "And for gosh sake, watch your language!" Which was just hilarious.

3 Tony Falls From The Sky

Tony proves his definite worth as a superhero when he helps the Avengers to save New York and flies a nuke into space. When he falls down, the Avengers are worried at first but Tony then wakes up and starts joking again.

From ensuring that nobody was kissing him, to asking the Avengers to go and get some shawarma, this scene is an excellent example of going from serious to funny in a short period of time.

2 Tony Meets Captain America

Tony works well in a team but it sometimes looks like he would prefer flying solo. So when he meets his fellow Avengers for the first time, it doesn't always go so well. One of the best moments is charged exchange with Captain America in which Tony and Cap manage to insult each other.

Tony then ends the exchange with his now-famous line: "Genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist." It's an iconic and hilarious line.

1 Tony Faces The Invasion

Even in the face of danger, Tony doesn't lose his sense of humor which manages to derail his enemies on more than one occasion. When Thanos' sidekicks attack Earth and Ebony Maw starts his grand speech, Tony is unimpressed and he lets him know by saying: "I'm sorry, Earth is closed today."

An even better quip follows soon after when Bruce - unsuccessfully - tries to change into Hulk and Tony reprimands him: "Dude, you're embarrassing me in front of the wizard." Tony just wants other people to take him seriously and Bruce's futile effort isn't helping.
